Also experiencing this issue in the latest tagged image release, using the official Bitwarden app and Tailscale on iOS 18.1.1 I am not able to access my Vaultwarden instance!
Hi everyone, I could fix the issus on the iOS app with allowing “Local Network” permission in the iOS Settings. I use the vaultwarden server with the latest tag and the latest iOS App.
For those who have the latest image version and have their permissions sorted out, but are still having these problems on a new device (or an upgrade): you probably have issues with your certificate. You have to install and trust your vaultwarden server certificate on ios. You have to be able to visit your vaultwarden web page without security warnings.
This was the solution for me BitWarden client 2025.1.0 on iOS 18.2.1 (both the latest versions at the time)
Checking here for April 2025 on a new iPhone 16. Still having this issue. Any suggestions? Error message is “Internet Connection Required: Please connect to the internet before continuing” when I attempt to sign in.
I can access from the web browser on all devices with no issue. I can access from browser extensions with no issue. I can access from my older iPhone 11 with no issues.
Enabled “connect to local network devices”
Tried uninstalling and re-installing the Bitwarden iOS app
Tried the testing image tag
iOS 18.4.1
Vaultwarden Server v1.33.2 (containerized)
Bitwarden iOS app v2025.3.0
Using NGINX Proxy Manager with Lets Encrypt certs.
Update: found this reddit post with a comment that worked for me. Very strange!
Same exact error for me. Works fine from my PC with the browser extension and the Bitwarden desktop app. Works fine on my iPhone from the browser. Works fine on the iOS app if I’m connected to cellular. When I connect to wifi and try to sync in the iOS app, it throws the “Internet connection required” error.
iPhone 16
iOS 18.5
Vaultwarden Server v1.34.3 in a docker container
Bitwarden iOS app v2025.7.1
Nginx Proxy Manager with Let’s Encrypt certs
Unfortunately the fix in the reddit post doesn’t seem to work anymore.
EDIT: Reboot your phone from time to time.
I suspect the issue was that I initially didn’t allow the Bitwarden app access to the local network. After I changed that, I don’t think the Bitwarden app even tried again, even though I removed and reinstalled the app several times. A reboot did the trick and now it can connect.
