Error when connecting from iOS App

Hi,

when trying to connect to our self-hosted vaultwarden server from an iPad with the official Bitwarden app we get the error message “Internet connection required - Please connect to the internet before continuing.”

The app version on said iPad is 2024.7.1, it works fine on another iPad with version 2024.2.0.
The vaultwarden versions are attached below.

Using the web client works on the iPad with the Bitwarden app error, so connection to the server is not the actual problem.

Help on this issue would be highly appreciated.

Same issue here with multiple iOS devices. Android and web is fine.

I face a similar problem when trying to connect to my self-hosted vaultwarden server (docker image on Synology NAS) from an iPad with the official Bitwarden app I get the error message “An error has occured” (Es ist ein Fehler aufgetreten).

The app version on iPad is 2024.8.1, the server version is 1.32.0.
[Works fine on iOS with Browser]
[Works fine on Android and Windows with official Bitwarden App]

I found a blog comment that says, the server version has to be updated to 2024.6.2.

Will the next docker image fix the problem or can anyone assist?

Best regards, CR71

Updated to 2024.6.2 from 2024.8.1?
So downgraded? Doesn’t make sense to me.
But I can confirm with recent update of iOS official app it says “An error has occured” when I’m trying to connect.

When I logged out and tried to connect from scratch this is what can be seen in container logs

I’d love to see what’s the actual solution to that. I visited pharmacy and I couldn’t get important info from my vaultwarden

Same issue here since earlier in the week.
Have been waiting several date for an upgrade which would resolve the issue.
But it’s still a no go. Would appreciate some news from Vaultwarden…

After the update to iOS version 2024.8.1 I had the same issue. The app could not connect to my self hosted server with the message “An error occurred”. Updating my docker image to version 1.32, i.e. web-vault v2024.6.2 solved the issue.

Thanks @frank. I had performed the Docker container upgrade this morning before posting here. Version 1.32.0 displays version 2024.6.2b on my side. So I figured that wasn’t enough.

But for some reason I seem to have incorrectly tested. In fact it does work!

Your comment spurred me to recheck. And it does now work. Phew.

Does anyone know if the macOS native app works fine before I upgrade there? Thanks.

I’ve just updated the macOS Bitwarden app to 2024.8.2 as well, and it works. At least with the newest server version.

I’ve run into this also. I’m running the latest Docker container (1.32, webvault 2024.6.2). Up to date on iPhone, MacOS, and iPad clients. No issues connecting from iPhone or MacOS, but iPad Bitwarden client is reporting “Internet Connection Required” even though I am able to use the webvault on that same device.

I’m not able to downgrade the iOS apps. Haven’t tried to downgrade my container, but from other comments it doesn’t sound like that is likely to help.

Sure hope there is a way to get this working again soon. Access to my passwords from my iPad is critical. I’m getting by with the webvault right now, but that’s a big step backwards.

An update of the iOS app to 2024.8.1 did not help, resetting the iPad the trick.
But that is obviously not a viable solution.

Adding another datapoint…

FreeBSD Jail running Vaultwarden (self-hosted w/ SSL & custom domain)
Updated to latest versions (1.32 & 2024.6.2)
Web app works fine.
Mac app works fine on one of my Macs
Chrome extension works fine on that same Mac
Mac app & Chrome extension do NOT work on a different Mac
2 iPhones & an iPad do not work via the app
All apps on all devices are on their latest version

For all of the apps that do not work, I can add my self-hosted custom domain and enter my email. When I then enter my master password and click the login button, I get “An error has occurred.” pop-up with a simple OK button.

I’ve tried deleting the apps, rebooting, and reinstalling them… no luck with any of them.

Any other anecdotes or things to try to get my devices working with the app (and the other Mac, for that matter)?

Following up. I reinstalled 1.32 with the pkg command, rebooted the Jail, and tried again. Victory!

Bump. I am facing the same problem. I can access my self-hosted Docker instance from its web portal, through browser plugins, etc., but not with my iPhone app. I get “an error occurred” message. I tried uninstalling the app and updating it to the latest version, but no luck.

The server version is 2024.1.2.r01. Any help with this issue is appreciated.

I am having the same problem with my instance. Using the android app, the web browser plugin and website are working normally. My trouble is using the IOS app. when I launch it a pop-up appears saying An error has occurred.

I had the same issue but just now BitWarden is back on my iOS devices, after I switched from BitWarden Server to VaultWarden Server, ver 1.32.2.

I though it would be a tough work to transfer everything from BitWarden to VaultWarden, but it turned out a 2min job… lol

It runs on my Synology NAS Container.

The latest image nailed it. Upgraded version is working normally for all the clients (iOS and android included).
