I’ve tried everything suggested in this thread and still cannot get it to work. I get this error message (please see attached)…

I also had some problems setting up Gmail SMTP. The test email gave me a 400 bad request. Therefor sharing my experiences.
I used most of the info above, also have 2FA enabled in Google but could not find the Apps security page anymore. It can be found here: https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords
Then you need to create an App and use the generated password instead of your normal password. Then it worked for me.
