404 not found and browser plugin not synchronizing

Hi all.
I’m running Vaultwarten on my Synology NAS and since a couple of weeks I noticed that the browser plugin (I’m using Brave, but also Mullvad) doesn’t sync anymore.
The app on my Android phone is working fine, and so does the desktop app on my MacBook Pro - both are connected to the same subnet when at home. When abroad, my Android device connects through WireGuard VPN tunnel.
At home on my MacBook Pro I tried to access via https the login, but neither with the private IP, nor with the FQDN it works.
In the browser plugin the “sync vault now” doesn’t have any effect when clicked.

Can anybody help me start troubleshooting this situation?
TIA!

A few ideas to check:

  • Read at the docker log, and check if there is any intent of access from the browser plugin
  • Do you use any ad-blocker on the browser? Ensure to whitelist your domain or IP
  • Could you try another browser? Maybe Chrome or Firefox?
  • Are you sure Brave is not using some sort of integrated VPN?

I don’t think I do have a docker log, but maybe I looked in the wrong place? I checked under “docker/vaultwarden” and there’s none. Can you point me to the log file eventually?

No, I don’t.

Tried Firefox - no.
Tried Chrome - yes, it worked first time and it synced. After some minutes I tried to manually re-sync and it failed with a generic “sync error”.

Yes, I am.

I also uninstalled the browser plugin, shut down Brave, restarted it and reinstalled the browser plugin - no change.
Then, all of a sudden, after many trials, I was able to log in - but still the “Sync vault now” is not working (both on Brave and on Chrome - the latter showing an old sync time, and I already closed Chrome and reopened it).

Could you share a screenshot of that “generic sync error”?

When I mention the Docker log, I mean, for example:

(here some additional examples on how to read the log: Synology: How to Check Your Docker Container Logs – Marius Hosting)

Are you having sync issues with only one computer? or all your computers are having sync issues?

Hi.
I rebooted my MacBook Pro (running the latest update since last week - Sequioa 15.4). I’ve heard about issues with this latest macOS release… anyway.
After the reboot, I’m able to use the Bitwarden plugin on Firefox. Even the manual vault sync is working there. But on Brave browser it won’t work. There I don’t see any logs in the docker, which might assess that Brave it’s even trying!
Where should I look further?

Sorry, I don’t use Brave browser. I don’t know what is it doing behind the scenes.
Looks like for some reason, Brave is blocking the request from the extension.

Just to check, are you positive the self-hosted setup on the extension is correctly set?
I mean, you wrote the URL to your self-hosted-vaultwarden?

It seems I need someone to jump in who can help troubleshooting Brave’s behaviour related to Bitwarden’s plugin…
Yes, I’m 100% sure the URL is correct, as it is the same I entered in Bitwarden’s app and in the Bitwarden browser plugin in Firefox.
