# Why Admin diagnostic page using GitHub as DNS

Hi I am new to vaultwarden and using it on local network . I can’t understand why vaultwarden using GitHub DNS . Is it safe ? Can we use custom DNS instead GitHub.

We do not use GitHub as a DNS provider. We use the domain to resolve the IP. Using the DNS provided by the host.

The reason we resolve the IP of GitHub is that we use the api of GitHub to check the version.

So GitHub is not a DNS provider.
